EVIEEEEE i’m fucking feral over janitor!eddie rn 🥵 how about this for the blurb game:
janitor!eddie, fluff/smut, maternity lingerie
ur welcome 🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭
oooh you're about to send the girlies into HEAT!!!! ahhh!!! slightly smutty a little sweet bc how could it not be??? minors dni
"I feel disgusting." You huffed, looking down at your swollen abdomen, your swollen hands, swollen ankles. You felt like a giant balloon, ready to pop, but still so far away from release. Seven months, two more to go, and you weren't sure how you were going to do it.
Lisa frowned at you. "Well, you look good." She countered. "Glowing."
You rolled your eyes, letting your shoulders roll. "You're lying." You muttered. "I'm just sweating. That's not a glow."
Lisa laughed. "You're so hard on yourself! You look amazing!" She insisted. "You're glowing, and you've got the cutest fucking bump in the world!"
You looked down at your overalls, your bump snug against them. "I don't know why you think you look bad. I've seen people who look bad during pregnancy- I looked bad during pregnancy. Believe me, it's not you. You look radiant."
"I'm swollen. I'm disgusting." You shook your head. "I know Eddie has got to be exhausted from all my mood swings. I know I am."
Lisa's lips pursed in thought. "When was the last time you and Eddie had sex?"
"Lisa-" You hissed, looking around at the tables of people around you.
"Seriously. When was the last time you did? Nothing makes you feel prettier than getting some loving." She winked at you. "Put on something sexy and seduce your husband."
You shook your head, looking down at the table. "I don't think Eddie would find this hot." You muttered, nodding down at your bump.
Lisa scoffed. "Have you met Eddie? He worships you." She rolled her eyes, grabbing her tea. "Let's go. We're going shopping for you."
Later that night, Lisa had insisted Ollie come over for a sleepover with her son, giving you a wink before she left.
"Guess we have the night to ourselves." Eddie smiled sweetly. "Do you want me to make you something? Or do you want to try and finish the nursery?"
You shifted nervously. "Um, not tonight." You muttered. "I was kinda thinking we could maybe spend some time together?" Your eyes met his.
Eddie beamed, lighting with excitement, soothing your jittery nerves. He was still there, still your husband, the same love of your life he was before. "Yeah, that sounds great, sweetheart." Eddie hummed, stepping closer to you. "What do you have in mind?"
"I, um, I actually bought something." Your voice shook slightly, swallowing to steady it. "I want to show it to you."
"Yeah?" Eddie's brows raised.
You nodded. "Stay right here." You pointed to the couch. "I-I'll be right back."
The lingerie wasn't as sexy as what you usually bought, but it was still pretty. You spun in the mirror, the fluttering babydoll lace top swaying with you. A matching pair of panties, blush and lace to match the top, that weren't the usual thongs. A little more covering that what you were used to, but looking at yourself in the mirror, you hated to admit Lisa was right but...
You felt pretty. Sexy, even.
You only hoped Eddie would feel that same way, butterflies erupting in your tummy with every soft step down the carpeted hallway. "Close your eyes!" You called.
"Alright." Eddie laughed lightly.
You peeked around the corner, his eyes closed, lounging on the couch. Stepping carefully, you stood in front of him, the coffee table between the two of you.
"Ok," You took a deep breath. "Open your eyes."
Eddie's lashes lifted, eyes widening at the sight of you. His jaw dropped slightly, gaze roaming furiously over your figure.
You felt vulnerable under it, shifting from foot to foot, swaying nervously. "D-Do you like it?" You squeaked.
Eddie stuttered in response, rambling and words jumbled. "Y-You- Yeah, yeah of course I-" Eddie's eyes met yours. "You look incredible."
Your body burned with heat, grinning sheepishly at him. "Really?" You asked. Eddie nodded dumbly. "Because, you don't have to say that if-if you don't want to do this, I get it. I just... I don't know, Lisa thought it would be a good idea, and we haven't in a while-"
"-No," Eddie shook his head, eyes still wide. "I-I definitely want to. I really, really," He stood, stepping towards you, shin hitting the coffee table and shoving it clumsily.
"Shit," Eddie hissed, blushing. "Sorry, I didn't- I- Yes, I want to." Eddie nodded, tongue thick in his mouth, heart skipping, rambling the way he did when you two first started dating. You still made him nervous, made his heart race like he was in junior high again.
"I-I didn't know you felt like this." Eddie admitted, stepping towards you, hands settling onto your hips. "I would've, ya know, we could've taken care of this a while ago."
You giggled shyly, your hands sliding over his tee shirt, toying with his necklace. "I-I didn't think you wanted to." You admitted, not meeting his eyes. "I thought... Y'know, thought you thought I looked... weird or gross or something."
"What?" Eddie gaped, breath strangled in shock. "Gross? Are you- Baby, no, no."
You looked up at him carefully. "Really?"
"Yeah, yeah, like-like the opposite. The complete opposite." Eddie nodded furiously, swallowing the spit that was pooling in his mouth, looking at you in front of him. "I knew you didn't feel good, and I just thought you weren't in the mood. Thought it would be kinda asshole-ish of me to try and fuck you while you're not feeling good."
You giggled, hands snaking up his shoulders, wrapping around his neck. "Well, I'm feeling good now." You purred, the familiar sensual tone back in your voice, a little shakier than usual. "I'd like for both of us to feel good now."
"Yeah?" Eddie grinned, nose brushing with yours. "I can do that. I can make you feel good." He pulled you closer to him, your bump pressed to his skin, his hands on your back, pulling you in for a hot, sloppy kiss.

cha hyun su x female reader genre: romance, angst , fluff (because hyun su is a cutie) type: series (but can be read as a oneshot) word count: 1,791
part 1 of series ◄◄ ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ part 3 of series
౨ৎ ⋆˚ synopsis: cha hyun su and (y/n) go on a mission together to find items requested by eunhyuk but then, meets an unexpected danger that threatens their life and death. monster hyun su makes a small appearance ౨ৎ ⋆。˚
"Hyun Su."
(y/n)'s call snaps the said other to whip his head to her- eyes widening and brows raise along with the makeshift spear in his hands. "Huh?"
"Let's check this room," she says and points to a door she then, swings open. Hyun Su follows her inside before taking the lead once they slip through the entrance.
They're now on a joint task to find a couple of things needed for the livelihood of the residents. Okay, well one of them was assigned on a mission and the other made the choice to tag along. Guess who's who?
Asking Eunhyuk wasn't option. Everybody knows how uptight and aloof he can be- for good reason of course but, that's exactly why (y/n) had to go behind his back. She went ahead and stalked Hyun Su like a tail the moment Eunhyuk left after giving him a rundown of his objectives for the day.
"You shouldn't have come," Hyun Su quietly expresses his disagreement to her decision but (y/n) just shrugs and scans the room for valuables.
Contrasting Eunhyuk's constant character however, Cha Hyun Su had changed little by little. He's more vocal regarding his feelings now compared to before and he's less solemn. He's also less hesitant to reach out to (y/n) when it comes to asking for comfort although, it rarely happens. Still, there a lot of things he keeps silent about such as when he was zoning out before; what thoughts were he thinking, he won't say. All those time (y/n) used to accompany him in the quarantine room bore fruit.
"Ooh! Batteries," she alerts with subtle excitement and points to a torn 4-pack battery set peeking out from under a shattered mirror. She reaches out to grab it but is intervened by Hyun Su who quickly picks it up.
"...You'll get cut," is all he mumbles while stuffing the batteries into his backpack. A small smile stretches on (y/n)'s face at his attentiveness towards her. "These are my tasks."
Her smile widens at his proclamation that indirectly means for her to just do nothing. The search continues.
"So, duct tape's the last one. Where can we find that?" (y/n) wonders aloud after they found the rest of the items in the list. She's responded with a tug on her sleeve to which she reacts with letting Hyun Su drag her away gently to the upper level and in front of a door. "Janitor room?"
Hyun Su nods and quickly pulls his hand away from her shirt- afraid he'll get greedy for her hand if he were to hold longer. "I once saw the janitor tape the hinges of the electric box together before the electricians came. I think, he should have one. Hopefully."
The words he speaks sound incoherent to (y/n)- the letters blurred and jumbled in her head as his rapid action of pulling away causes a slight undesirable tug in her heart. But she manages to brush it off and reach for the doorknob.
Yet once again, being interrupted by her knight in shining armor who sneakily slips to the front and opens the door. He walks in to search for the tape and lets (y/n) to just stand and watch. He mimics a cat when his face snaps towards the tape with large eyes sparkling with quiet glee.
"Here's the ta—" His sentence is cut after he takes the object and turn to (y/n) whose hair gently flutters to the side from a breeze. His brows furrow and (y/n) shares the same reaction.
She turns her face to the direction of the source and lips part in shock at the sight of a broken window. "Hyun Su, that window's broken. Something must've got in."
"What?" Hyun Su blurts and throws the tape in his bag before rushing out to shield her. His eyes then darts to the camera before belatedly realizing that the CCTV on the floor had broken down. This meant that whatever it is that happened here, Eunhyuk would be unaware of. No one will know if anything is to happen to them here. If anything happens to (y/n).
Dread fills him as panic ensues like a sprout rapidly growing its stems and roots to every end of his figure- a siren blaring in his head and heart pounding faster than ever. "(y/n), we have to go."
A faint whimper follows.
He frowns, confused by her lack of response despite feeling her standing behind him. So he turns- and the sight is enough to shatter him whole.
A monster with what seems like the deformed head of a spider and a twisted figure of a sea creature with debris and broken glass sticking out of its back had coiled its tentacles around (y/n) who's frozen with fright. Her eyes are wide with horror as she stays still- trying her best not to agitate the monster who only captured her soundlessly yet have done nothing after.
In fact, it's now staring at Hyun Su with its 8 black protruding eyes that look like they'll pop any second- all blinking in different times which rises goosebumps in their skin.
But Hyun Su's much too terrified at the possibility of losing (y/n) that he sees nothing but a target to kill.
SLOSH!
He stabs his spear into one of its eye, causing it to explode and inadvertently loosen its grip on (y/n) who quickly limps to the ground.
"(Y/N)!" Hyun Su shouts and pulls her up before dashing through the halls with her almost floating behind him. "In here!"
He slips into a room and shuts the door before falling to his knees to be eye-level with her who's desperately trying to catch her breath. The monster's tentacle had suffocated her, turning her skin and lips a shade of blue. Her head's spinning from the lack of air.
"(y/n)! (y/n), are you okay?" Hyun Su asks frantically as he constantly brushes her hair away from her face as she holds her head in his hands. His gaze heavy with concern scans her but is interrupted by a large growl, followed by a slam near their door. "...It's going to find us."
(y/n) sees nothing but colours and shapes and suddenly finds herself in an enclosed space before seeing Hyun Su's face near hers.
His lips form words. He's saying something. But (y/n) can't hear them. She's having trouble keeping her eyes open as her chest heaves for air. Seeing her dazed state, Hyun Su then forms a small smile, a smile that doesn't reach his eyes but for some reason, it reaches so deep into her chest. It... stings.
His shadow then swallows her when he bends down slightly- letting their foreheads touch for just a few seconds long before he hesitantly pulls away.
The light then disappears around her as the closet doors are closed by Hyun Su who leaves a gap big enough for air but not enough to replenish hers completely.
And so, she faints.
She awakes with a gasp and she quickly shoves the doors open- tumbling forward as a result but feels something minimally soft cushioning her.
Hyun Su's backpack.
Panic overtakes as she recalls the mangled monster and the life threatening situation she experienced. And yet, it's now strangely quiet and... Hyun Su is nowhere to be seen.
"Hyun Su," she mutters and rushes out the room with the bag only to gasp at the large volume of blood smeared on the floors and walls- but what scared her the most is the bloody handprints scattered around the windows which eventually increased on the layers of duct tape used to cover the crack they saw before. "He covered this. He's alive! Hyun Su!"
It's as if she's a madman- running around the hallways in search of him and completely disregarding the fact that there could be another monster. It's unlikely, anyways, or else they would've came out before.
"Hyun Su! CHA HYUN SU!" She shrieks and drifts to a stop in front of the janitor room where the door is open by ajar. She's scared to swing it open wider. What if what she sees is worse than a 'missing' Hyun Su? What if... he's not just gone?
But relief settles in the moment she sees him collapsed on the ground, breathing and alive- although, battered and bruised.
"Cha Hyun Su," (y/n) sobs and pulls him into her arms. He stirs.
He pants onto her back as she lays his head on her shoulder. "...(y/n)? Why are you h-here?"
"For you," she answers without pause and she feels him flinch.
"I told you to not come for me... If I don't come back, don't search for me," he strains his voice and (y/n) pushes him up- tightly holding his cheeks against her palms with a glare.
"Stop being sappy and just rest up, will you?" She scolds and Hyun Su's eyes flicker between her angry ones- feeling a thump in his chest and question marks seem to appear on his head. "Now, shush."
She pulls him back down to her shoulder and hugs him tightly in hopes to hide the tremble of her arms and the tears that brim her eyes. Acting tough seems to work, thankfully.
No, it doesn't. Not at all.
And yet, as selfish as it sounds and as much as he wants to hit himself for it, Hyun Su feels... grateful that she's so deeply affected by him. That she's moved by him. His lips stretch to a grin as he nuzzles further into her shoulder- shuffling to the crook of her neck to feel the warmth of her skin.
"...If you try to sacrifice yourself for me again, you better stay alive," she suddenly says.
"Alri—"
"So I can kill you personally."
"Oh..."
Despite her death threat, the joyful miens they each wear show their heartfelt feelings for one another.
'I'd like to see her try,' a voice that's eerily similar to Hyun Su's chuckles in his head and his smile drops- eyes turning completely black before they fade just as quickly.
'Shut up,' Hyun Su snaps back in his head and wraps his arms around (y/n)'s waist- unintentionally leaning towards her for security and comfort which causes a blush to creep on her cheeks.
a/n: do leave a like and reblog if you like them because they will totally help in motivating me!! thanks for reading ઇ♡ଓ

what if: sephiroth finds a jumbled box of baby items (socks, clothes, hat, blanket, etc) that lucrecia put together during her postpartum depression phase when she still had hope of reuniting with her baby, and then left behind/forgot it when she left. since it has sephiroth's name on it, it eventually gets sent to him at HQ in one of the clearings-out of the nibel lab. (tbh hojo may have trashed it but in this scenario a helpful janitor fishes it out of the garbage)
Sephiroth spends hours looking them over, silent, hunched, expressionless save for the slight trembling in his hands. He locks himself up in his room for nearly two days, just staring down at the box, at the dusty collection of toys and trinkets assigned to him, never enjoyed. He can't find her scent on them, can't glean a sense of consistency in her selection. Merely objects selected at random for his comfort and amusement, compiled together by a nervous hand.
He would have traded them all for her. What good are they? He has no use for toys and blankets. He was never granted the luxury. They are foreign objects to him. Meaningless. Worthless.
He wants her instead. By the gods, by everything inside him that knows how to BE a human being, a child. He just just wants her. Her alone. The feeling sickens him, his chest heavy, eyes hot.
Why couldn't they be her?
Why couldn't he see her, just once?
Why couldn't he be anyone other than the name on the box?

I love that in Rocket's backstory she was a janitor, because as a janitor myself at the hospital I work at we're given a surprising amount of clearance for accessing rooms in the building, second only to security officers. Also, cleaning and maintenance staff are inconspicuous and often looked over. So, chances are you're not gonna question why a janitor is in a room as long as it looks like they're doing their job. Out of mind, out of sight; a ghost. It would be relatively easy (hypothetically of course, to any future employers I wouldn't do this in real life) to "borrow" company property and do... less than legal things with classified information, and with Rocket's engineering/tech experience and the lackluster security the only thing she would have to worry about is being patient and making sure that she's still doing her job to keep prying eyes away from her. Not saying that this wouldn't be a stressful plan to enact, but in this context it's very doable and I just think that's neat
As for the actual stealing of the ship... well, I assume that's where the luck comes into play.
anyway yea :) your comic v cool and fun and good
wait i forgot i had a question! ok so how exactly does Chip's memory deletion work? is it just like a button on the side of her head that just boop and poof its gone? Does she ever accidentally delete memories she wants to keep? wait thats 3 questions oops
HA I'm glad I got that accurate! At my last job whenever janitors got into stuff nobody else was supposed to see there was always this attitude of like "oh well, they won't know what to do with that info anyway." Which is .. hmm. But YES disclaimer for kids at home, I do not condone becoming a janitor to modify engineering plans and eventually hijack a spaceship to leave the planet. Just say NO!
Chip's robot physiology is a little wonky and works by cartoon logic, but basically she has two little electric panels on the sides of her head. That's what those yellow swirl things are supposed to be.
When she wants to forget something unpleasant, she essentially sends an electric jolt through her finger while pressing it up to the panel. and ZAP! (It's sort of meant to invoke the image of someone sticking their fingers in their ears when they don't want to hear something.)
To put it visually, its like her memory is a video in an editing program that she's dragging clips out of, and the gaps in the video are just replaced by vague jumbled static.
Sometimes she actually does remove more memories than intended. When she's in a rush or feeling panicked she'll cut out a wider section of memory in her haste to just GET RID OF THE BAD!! Which deletes pretty much all of the surrounding context of the memory as well. She's never really considered this to be a big issue.
Tumblr media
Now where do the removed memory bits go? She has NO idea. All she knows is that she can't access them anymore once she's done the zappy thing, so they're as good as gone to her!
But who knows what could happen? 👀

everyone wants detention
Tumblr media
Jughead making his way to the detention session he scheduled for himself. One interesting thing on this one, beside that they added a single jagged line, is that counter to the usual they swap a red sweatshirt for a blue one for Jughead.
Tumblr media
Jughead's motivation is oddly pure -- a nice quiet relaxing place to get his homework done. Archie's motives will be different -- first two times out he wants to avoid Moose's fist after chance meetings with Midge. And so comes the physical comedy in his failed attempts to work Mr. Weatherbee's ire.
Tumblr media
The difference between these two stories come at the conclusion, one where Archie gets out ahead and frames Moose for punishment and the next where Weatherbee sends Archie into Moose's orbit-- though narrative logic wise I am not sure the former works -- wouldn't that just make Moose madder? I suppose we are in the universe where everything just resets at the end of the story and if Archie was away unscathed he is permanently unscathed.
Tumblr media
Enter Betty -- a Dexter Taylor Little Archie version and the mainline version and we have that premise I would generally ascribe to as -- for good or ill -- typical Archie fare, where the character is trying to get detention in order to get with their love interest. And there Little Betty is scaring Little Jughead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Naturally the attempts are deflected.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the next go around with Archie, he is wanting to disrupt Veronica's detention time with Reggie, and them wanting to get out of the two dates at once jumble.
Tumblr media
The Rule of 3 comes in, with the fourth one tossed in from a couple decades later. Actually oddly the fourth one succeeds -- that story is going on a different direction.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Little Betty and the 80s Archie story are aligned in basically being the same from start to finish. The O'Henry-lite ending -- once things change and they no longer want detention, they accidentally step in it and get punished. Apparently the janitor has a bit of authority in the decision.
Tumblr media
The 1994 Betty story deviates with a different ending with Mr. Weatherbee doing a solid in accommodating Betty. Weird decision for him, or anyone in his position, and in the real world I would question a principal's meddling.

stars by the pocketful chapter 3/24
Summary: Greg gets to spend a little time with the kids
Warnings: none in this chapter
Words: 7,932 (so far)
former child star!Mouse
Sneak Peek:
The gymnasium was definitely a bit more chaotic with nearly a dozen kids taking up space and attention and time. It had started just fine. They were all willing to take instructions and work in groups, dividing up the lines from two skits so that everyone had an equal part or laying out cardboard to paint on. About an hour into the afternoon was when things got a bit more hectic.
Three separate copies of the scripts had been jumbled together in a pile, and most of the kids who had been reading from it, to the best of their abilities, had started playing a game of tag around the large room instead. Half of the cardboard had been overturned, leaving streaks of paint across the floor where larger amounts hadn't been spilled when trays got knocked over. Claudia - Ms. Griffin, when the students were around - had left to find the janitor so that it could get cleaned up before it caused any permanent damage, which left Greg alone with ten children completely out of control.

My overall thoughts on BATDR:
Honestly, Even with some of the flaws to the game- and how some characters were underused, n how they fucked over Sammy- I really did love the game. Story wise I thought it was? Not bad! I actually, really liked it d:] Biting and Attacking Wilson- I was super surprised when Nathan- wasn’t ‘bad’- Was absolutely expecting him to be cruel, and wicked- and take control over the ink machine himself. Surprised to learn it was his SON- The Janitor of his own studio who did.
The whole thing w Joey- I also rly Liked. I had a FEELING that Audrey would be related to Joey in the end- Really love the idea of just, Him creating her from the machine and raising her- The bit of Allison coming into his life and making him sort of, change his ways, and give ‘Henry’ his own angel was nice d:]
SPEAKING OF HENRY. I LOVE HIM. I was so worried what his design would look like- and I love it sm. Sweet old man- I’m giving him a kiss. The bit w him in his cell made me scream- the moment I heard him speak i lost it JKJLG,K.FDSHJG He sounded so defeated and just. Accepting of what the ‘cycle’ became n that being his new reality- it made me so sad. Dude is just TIRED let him REST. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The ending like chapter 5 of batim was a lil jumbled, but I did love that Audrey has sort of- taken up the role of control on the story now. Hopefully she’s able to give everyone a happier ending- AND. THE IDEA OF THEM BEING ABLE 2 CROSS INTO OUR WORLD NOW!!!!!!!! A. Means they can finally escape the studio n maybe? try and live- semi ‘normal’ lives w Audrey.
Overall this game has: made me love n Cherish Bendy even more- fuck Wilson, and the keepers- I’m mauling them for HURTING MY BOY-!
But yea. I rly liked it d:) Excited to see if we get anything else- like a dlc, or something.

It wasn’t too crazily unusual to see another of the NRC residents in Ramshackle, and yet every time Yuu had she was surprised. Even more so when there was no precursor to a guests arrival and when she was returning to her and Grim’s temporary residence after another long day of appeasing the headmage with the ever growing list of duties she had around the school itself. Whether she was actually a student or just a glorified janitor that needed some form of entertainment during the school hours really remained to be seen. At least she was given the opportunities to join her fellow classmates in the various events both inside and outside the school, though even then she was appointed the task of snapping pictures at every opportune moment.
Now wasn’t really the time to think about that though as a certain red eyed prince was seemingly waiting for the pair inside. “Kalim..?” Yuu started, her tone questioning Grim having already jumped free of her hold and skitter away from the two doubtlessly concerned by the notion of Kalim potentially stuffing crackers in his mouth again. “Uh, is something wrong? Is Jamil with you?” Not that it would really explain why he was here, but it’d certainly keep her from being startled by the presence of yet another guest.
“Not that I’m chasing you out or anything, please don’t think of it like that I just wasn’t expecting to see…” Where was she going with this? The way she was jumbling her words made it sound as though she didn’t want him there and though Kalim could be a bit much sometimes she did like the way that he, as opposed to the other housewardens, wasn’t nearly as serious. He was also the type that seemed to be the most fun to be around, the constant parties at Scarabia never falling flat and always entertaining. Whether it was Kalim doing that entertaining or someone from another dorm Yuu could certainly confirm that such events were never boring.
“You know what, just forget what I was saying. You don’t need a reason to be here, after all it’s just where I reside it’s not like this is solely my dorm or something.” Kalim had also put money into fixing the place up after the VDC tournament so it’d seem rude to not let him stay. “I do have to cook up dinner for Grim and myself though, so if you want to stick around you can certainly join us. Oh and don’t worry I won’t put anything weird in the food, I have no reason to want to hurt you anyway.” She chuckled lightly at that, really she didn’t have a reason to want to bring harm upon anyone but knowing of how Kalim had more than a few poison attempts on him she definitely wanted to clear up that she by no means meant any sort of harm.

❛ you're not gonna fuck it up. ❜
“ you don't know that ! ” she nearly shouted, heat blossoming over her cheeks at her own outburst. the muffled noise of the crowd in the distance was enough to carry her attention once more, adding to the trepidation building in her chest. a ticking time bomb counted down in her body, her heart an unwelcome, aggressive metronome taunting her. they still had half an hour to show - time for their first performance together, the waiting room nothing but absolute chaos and that was precisely why she'd left to find solitary in a nearby janitor's closet. it was dark, quieter. the in - ear device was hanging loosely around her neck and the wires were still jumbled from her initial haphazard set - up, fingers shaking with anticipation, so much so that she'd given up on any attempts of neatness.
so when she found herself face - to - face with him, having barely noticed when he'd made his entrance to her hiding space, every nasty little feeling that'd been bottled up was being unleashed. nothing personal to him, he just happened to be there. she would feel immensely guilty about it by the end of the night, she knew this. “ i'm going to forget my lines. i'm going to go off - key. i'm going to screw up so astronomically terribly that it'll become a new viral meme and not even in a good way. oh, i don't even want to think about this. ” the words grew quieter as she buried her face in her hands, shallow breaths filling the gaps of silence. “ go away, zuko. leave me to suffer. ”

IM STILL ALIVE (Somehow) SO HERES ANOTHER JUMBLE OF WORDS
How cool would it be if we made out in a rusty car from the 1950s?
We could trace the old moth-eaten seats with our fingers and imagine what could have happened in the car.
And when the scrapyard owner finds us we can put it all on young love.
How cool would it be if we kissed in the arches of a castle?
We could carve our initials into a stone.
And when the tour guide finds us we can blame it all on young love.
How cool would it be if you were to hug me and hold me tight behind the school?
We could talk about all the teachers we hate.
And when the janitor finds us we can say its all because of young love.
How cool woukd it be if we exchanged gifts in the parking lot of the cinema?
We could point out people and guess what their life is like.
And when people see us they will think its all young love
How cool would it be if we stayed together through college or univercity?
We can get a dorm together.
And when people see us we can show them it isnt just young love.
How cool would it be if I proposed under your favourite tree?
We can plan out our wedding together.
And we can prove it to ourselves it isn't just young love.

Book Review: The First Tail
The First Tail, by Taniko K. Williams and Outback Quill. I’m giving this a solid three out of five stars, and a definite warning of avoid if you’re feeling the black dog nosing around. Particularly if, while you may or may not belong to a church, you do think religion is Serious Business. Because this is technically well written, on the surface a fantasy adventure story, and yet if you think about it both disturbing and harmful to morality.
The sample was a promising story. Dystopia, yes; and I saw a severe logic hole with, “our world is short on resources so we’ll put everyone not economically valuable into cryosleep and let them ‘live” online”. First, how much resources does it take to do that, and how many people are employed that way? Second, deciding who is “economically valuable” is a really, really slippery thing. Is a musician of economic value? A writer? An artist? The guy who cleans the office trashcans? I guarantee any organization thinks they can cut janitors, and they are all wrong.
But Kadia and her situation sounded interesting, the classic “evil stepmother gets daughter of former marriage out of the way so her child can inherit”, and I wanted to see how she fought back. And the first, oh, quarter of the book was interesting; the net of betrayal, ending up online, learning to deal with the world around her, getting a message out to her own lawyer, and trying to deal with the reality of having been nearly murdered and in no shape to be taken out of a capsule any time soon. Okay, doable, and the financial revenge she intended to take on her father and stepmother were entirely justified.
Problem is, the character goes downhill in morality from there - and yet I can see most people not noticing when they read. Kadia goes from wanting to experiment with the world around her to wanting to experiment on people and torture some of them to (temporary) death in the process. And these were people who, while they plotted to betray her, hadn’t actually had the chance to do it. There’s a big jump from giving a scammer the actual venom they’re claiming to have an antidote to, to “hmm, this other separate adventuring party in my own guild ticked my fellow party members off, for reasons I do not know, let’s burn them to death anyway.”
The story itself is giving a jumbled mish-mash of what’s considered correct behavior and what’s not. For example, near the start Kadia is firmly warned against deliberately poisoning herself, dying too often damages you irreparably. Yet later on we get characters in her own adventuring party joking and placing bets on how long it will take Kadia to die on an expedition, and Kadia (who was nearly murdered for real) is considered irresponsible for taking offense to this and leaving without a word. Kadia’s also expected to experiment with things everyone knows are hideously explosive, so long as she does it as safely as possible. She did exactly that, something went wrong and large sections of a camp burned down.... And the guild duns her for all of the damage. The guild whose upper members know she has brain damage that leaves her attention scattered and impulsive.
The capper to that is that the game world is one I would fight to the death not to be trapped in. Not because the setting is bad, it’s a great fantasy setting - but the rules about “not breaking immersion” mean you can’t bring in any outside books to read. If I can’t have my history, biology, folklore, fiction, heck, math - what is the point? The idea of being trapped for life in a world with no libraries and no one out to create knowledge, just hoard it... ugh.
Aaand last we get to the religion bit. This online world has gods, that can mess with people in serious and scary ways, and the way the god of alchemy demands tribute and worship just... no. No, this is no world to be in if you value your faith, or even just “my soul is my own, hands off”. Combine that with the lack of moral compass besides “do what benefits your guild”, and this is a truly barbaric place.
Definitely not getting any follow-up book.

santiago waits patiently, watching as the familiar sibling squabbles unfold in front of him. he doesn't intervene, not at first. he never does unless things go too far. instead, he watches with a grin, listening as the noise fills the small apartment, reminding him of just how much life is crammed into this little space. but it's only a matter of time before ruben and xavier take it too far, and santiago sighs. he clips both of them around the ear, lightly and quick. 'hey, enough.' he says, voice cutting through the noise. 'she's gonna be h-' ines's little steps beyond the door stop him from saying more, santiago standing straighter as his face lights up.
there's always a bittersweet feeling on his youngest's birthday. santiago can't help but remember the worry when she was born early, how fragile she seemed in those first days. but more than that, it's the timing. the fact that her birthday falls just a few days before the anniversary of beatriz's death. five years now, but the ache never really goes away. as he watches isla sweep across the room to pull ines into a tight hug, kissing the top of her head, santiago can see beatriz in her. see the woman she was, the mother she should still be. the smile that crosses his face isn't sad, but it's remorseful.
'happy birthday, chaparrita.' santiago's voice cuts through the chaotic jumble of xavier, ruben, and isla all trying to grab ines's attention. he steps forward, raising his voice just enough to be heard without losing that warmth. 'okay, hey, hey, everyone. listen.' he says, his tone firm but playful. 'let's all back up, huh? let her breathe.' he waves his hands to usher them away from her. 'we got time for gifts and cake.' he nods, his eyes soft as he watches his youngest daughter. but just as quickly, he catches the way she tries to slip through the chaos, making her escape towards her bedroom.
'janitor?' santiago frowns, catching the brief mention before she can disappear. 'nes, don't talk to creeps like that. he doesn't care about giving you movie recs.' there's a slight edge to his voice, protectiveness seeping through, but before she can shrug it off, he stops her, placing his hands gently on her shoulders. 'hey, wait, wait, wait. slow down.' he says, a chuckle breaking through as he pulls her in for a tight hug. 'give your father a goddamn hug.' his arms wrap around her small frame, his hand ruffling her hair affectionately before he leans back, looking down at her with a soft smile.
'why don't we have cake first, huh? gifts and movies can come later.' he glances over at xavier and ruben, raising a brow. 'the nexbot you're always fighting mase and ty for, right?' he shoots them a pointed look, jerking his thumb towards wherever they've hidden it in the apartment. because nothing misses santiago, even if he's pretended for weeks that he had no idea where it was. @waterfallswords

"I just realized something." Isla mutters as she stands in position, wedging herself between Xavier and Ruben. Her eyes lock on the door where Ines's footsteps can be heard beyond, just little shuffles like a critter coming out of a garbage chute. "It's not really a surprise, is it? Because...we all live here." Isla glances to their family with a ghost of a chuckle but then the door opens and she quickly gasps. Her hands twist the confetti popper, exploding little holograms of cherry blossoms and flowers and fireworks to an unsuspecting Ines. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" Isla screams, slightly shrill to ensure she's heard above the rest of them. NetBox chimes in with the cheer, a little digital tune ringing out of Happy Birthday as the little droid sways.
The older sister is quick to spring into action, lunging forward so she can rush to the door with excitement and grab hold of Ines into a hug. "Surprise! I made you a cake." she declares, squeezing Ines tightly before shoving her little sister with her closer to the dinner table and yoinking off the cloth to reveal the treat. It's only small, but it's complete with a real strawberry on the very top of it. "And Ruben helped." Isla adds as an aside after seeing their brother's frown. She waves a quick bossy gesture to him and Xavier. "Get the candles! Why are you just standing there?" she instructs but wears a bright smile to Ines. "You're not too cool now on the Ascend Program to spend some time with us, huh? Invited to parties like you're Miss Fancy."

Saturdays were the absolute worst, weren’t they?
Well, maybe not if you had time off and got to sleep in, rest up, have a cheat meal day, catch up on some telly while doing absolutely nothing.
That was fine. But working in public on a Saturday? Absolutely not. You had been yelled at and scolded more times than you could count on both hands and you were more than ready to toss your name tag and quit on the spot.
This is why you didn’t want to bloody work weekends.
The crowds, the chaos, the fact that Donna seemed to have a stick shoved so far up her ass that —
No.
You weren’t going to sit here and seethe even more or else you’d quite literally melt into a pile of your own burning anger.
It didn’t help that the one person who usually shared a Saturday shift with you had vanished off of the face of the Earth.
Yes, Steven.
After he hadn’t shown up for work on Friday, you assumed the worst. That he’d regretted what he said to you, realized he made a mistake by giving you hope, and “called in sick” to avoid saying it to your face. Of course, Steven was nicer than that and it was a bit of a harsh assumption on your part, but it was hard not to be so suddenly overcome with insecurities after noticing his absence.
But that insecurity died quickly when J.B had mentioned he didn’t call in sick, nor had he requested the day off. He just… didn’t show. And that, my friends, that was unlike Steven. He valued his job and his hopes for a promotion so dearly, there was no way he’d just dip without a word.
The only time he hadn’t come into work — you remember the day so clearly — he had texted you saying he wasn’t feeling well and that he was sorry he wouldn’t be there to accompany you. You also remembered feeling stupidly giddy that he thought of texting you to let you know.
So for him to have just not shown up yesterday with absolutely zero news was off-putting, to say the least.
You had been so preoccupied with thinking about his confession on Thursday and the fact that your unending worry seemed to grow by the second that you had been caught off guard by Dylan asking you where Steven was because, bollocks, you forgot he was supposed to cancel their date yesterday. You had, in all honesty, forgotten he’d even asked her out. But since he didn’t show on Friday to tell her the plans were off, she was outwardly ticked off about being stood up.
What a mess.
It got even stranger after you sent him a quick text, typing “hope you’re feeling alright x” and sending it before you could overthink it, only to get no response. Nothing. It didn’t even get read.
There was no word from Steven at all on Friday, nor Saturday.
You had woken this morning with a jolt, checking your phone like it was your lifeline to see if Steven had replied.
The screen was blank.
So, not only was today miserable in the sense that work was quite possibly draining the last remaining bit of life and energy from you, but it was also miserable because you were overcome with a sense of worry and unease at Steven’s disappearance.
Was he alright? Did this qualify for a missing persons?
You were well aware you were being a bit dramatic. Sometimes people just need time off, away from work and phones and the hustle of every day life. Maybe Steven finally managed to get a proper night’s sleep and decided to just shut off his alarm and enjoy it.
But you couldn’t stop thinking of his fingers laced with yours, the softness of the words in his confession, the way his eyes looked into yours as you bid each other goodnight. Steven wasn’t that good of an actor — in fact, he wasn’t an actor at all.
So if he had been telling you the truth on Thursday, what the hell happened?
Too caught up in your jumbled mess of thoughts, you nearly charged right into the janitor on your way out of the museum. He grunted, moving out of the way as you mumbled a quick apology, just wanting nothing more than to go home and probably not sleep.
Thankfully, the museum closed earlier on weekends, so you managed to finish up your shift while there was still a bit of daylight. The walk to the bus and then to your apartment was quick, under fifteen minutes, and it took approximately fifteen seconds for you to toss off your bag, jacket, and throw yourself down on the couch.
Dinner wasn’t even on your mind, too drained to do so much as take a cutting board out of the cupboards. It would have to be a leftovers kind of night.
You looked to your left, the spot where Steven had been sitting just two evenings prior, wishing more than anything that he could be sitting here right now.
It felt terribly empty, quiet, and lonely as you stared down at your phone screen, still without word from Steven.
Should you call? Yeah, maybe you should. He wasn’t supposed to be working tomorrow — and thankfully you weren’t either — so you weren’t expecting to hear from him then. Maybe it was best to reach out now.
You dialled and waited, the hum of the phone call signalling that it was indeed going through — that his phone wasn’t off. For some reason, you hadn’t expected that.
You also hadn’t expected him to pick up. Which is why you were at a loss for words when the other line picked up, quiet breathing being the only thing you could hear.
“Uh — hello? Hi? Steven?” your voice sounded nervous, which you guessed wasn’t exactly out of place. Last you had spoken he planned a date with you and it had been nearly two full days since you had last had contact.
There was no answer on the other end before the line went completely dead.
Did he…?
“What the —?” you pulled the phone away from your ear to look at the screen, “Did you — hello? Steven?” But when you tapped on the phone, it showed the call was no longer active.
“Damn it,” you closed your eyes, tossing the phone to the side. Whatever was going on with Steven, it was incredibly strange and you didn’t like it. Not one bit.
You knew his address — you’d never been, but you knew where he lived. Would it be ridiculously creepy for you to go over tomorrow and check in on him? Yes. But was it what you were willing to do to make sure he was okay? Also yes.
Trying to distract yourself, you took a shower and heated up some leftover pasta before calling it a night at exactly 9:24. Early, yes, but what else were you going to do for the evening?
The laundry bin in the corner of the room seemed to glare at you, as if saying ‘hey, you could clean me’, and you glared back with equal force, ‘not bloody likely.’
All of the little things would simply have to wait as you had more pressing matters at hand.
And those stupid pressing matters kept you up all night.
Tumblr media
God, Steven’s apartment building was the physical definition of dingy and worn down.
It was hard for you to imagine Steven living here, with his books and his little fish and his charming personality. You guessed that if you really looked deeply, the building would have some sort of character. But it just wasn’t really appearing to you.
You knocked on his door before you could even register the motion, thankful for it because you just knew you’d overthink and run straight back into the elevator in a heartbeat.
“Wait — coming! — oof,” you heard Steven’s voice on the other side of the door and nearly bolted on the spot. He was here, he was okay.
What the hell would you say?
You heard the sound of peeling and clicking before the door was unlocked, your eyes meeting Steven’s through the small cracked opening. He seemed taken aback, eyes widening as he opened the door a tad more.
“Y/N?”
A light laugh left you, awkward and breathy as you fidgeted with your hands, “Steven? Are you okay?”
He furrowed his eyebrows, “I — yeah, I’m okay. Why? Is everything — oh, bollocks, sorry,” he moved out of the way to let you in, and you hesitated for a second before stepping inside, “dunno why I just left you standing out there.”
You looked around his apartment, slightly impressed by the look of it. He had rows and rows of books, filled with all sorts of different texts and literatures next to large windows that overlooked the neighbourhood. The ceiling was tall, which made sense being on the top floor. His goldfish swam mindlessly in its tank, unaware as to any disturbances in the flat.
It was cozy. Slightly messy, but cozy.
Then you turned to face Steven. He looked… okay? His hair was disheveled and he had bags under his eyes, but he didn’t look like anything traumatic had happened in the last two days.
“What happened? Are you okay? I was worried sick,” you spoke up to break the tense silence, placing your hands on Steven’s arms. He seemed to like your touch, leaning a bit closer after the contact.
“I’m — why? I’m okay. I didn’t sleep too great last night, shocker, but I’m… I think I’m doing okay,” he didn’t seem thrown off or like he was trying to hide anything, his hands coming up to meet yours, “Are you feeling okay?”
You had to fight back a scoff, “Me? I’m bloody fine, Steven. You’re the one who vanished for two days.”
He stilled under your touch.
You swore you felt his blood turn to ice as his hands froze against yours, entire body stiff.
“What?”
Furrowing your eyebrows and stepping closer, you continued, “I haven’t heard from you since Thursday. I was worried sick about you. I thought something bad had happened.”
He shook his head, stepping back for a second, but not far enough to lose your touch, “Wait, why’d you say two days? It’s Friday, innit?” he looked towards the window before bringing his gaze back to you, “It’s Friday.”
Letting out a humourless, unsure laugh, you shook your head at him, “It’s Sunday.” You couldn’t tell if he was pulling your leg, but he looked so utterly confused and at a loss for words. Once again, Steven wasn’t that good of an actor.
He was quiet for a few good moments, hands still frozen against yours and eyes unblinking.
“How is that possible?” his voice was low, so low you could barely hear him.
Shrugging, you scanned his face for any signs or giveaways, “Well, I don’t know, Sunday comes after Saturday, which comes after Friday,” you lifted your hand from his arm and grabbed your phone from your pocket — which flashed the date and time — and showed it to him, “Are you telling me you missed two whole days?”
Steven pulled away from you, not in anger or because he was uncomfortable, but because he was in disbelief. He walked slowly towards his bed, hands on his head, with you following not too far behind. As he sat on the edge of the mattress, you stopped in your tracks as you noticed what was around the bed.
Sand.
And an ankle restraint.
“Steven… what’s, uh, what’s all this?” you waved your hand around, not exactly wanting to put him on the spot but your curiosity had got the best of you.
His eyes widened and he he became slightly pale, “It’s not what you think,” he stood up, moving closer to you with his hands out, “I swear. I just… how do I put this? I have a sleeping disorder. I, uh, I sleepwalk. I just want to make sure I, y’know, stay put during the night.”
Your heart sank a little for him, for how it all made sense now. How he was often sleep deprived, the way you’d caught him taking power naps in the break room during lunch, the way his eyes were darker and more sunken in today — it kind of clicked in your head and you felt terrible for not noticing it before.
He must hate going to sleep. Hate the way he didn’t know what was going to happen, if he’d just wander around the apartment or down the hall. How it seemed he was so terrified of sleepwalking that he tied himself to his bed.
“Oh, Steven,” you stepped closer, putting your hands on either side of his neck, “I’m so sorry.” You were sorry for a lot of things — prying being one of them. He looked so uncomfortable speaking about his sleeping issues and you felt awful for even bringing it up.
“I’m always here to help, you know?” he nodded lightly as you spoke, eyes finally lifting off the ground to meet yours, “I won’t pry, I swear. If you want to talk, I’m here. If you just want to take your mind off of things, I’m here. No questions asked.” If you hadn’t been staring him in the eyes the whole time you spoke, trying to emphasize your point, you would have missed the way the corner of his lips curled up in the tiniest of ways.
“I can’t believe it’s Sunday,” the tiny smile vanished and was replaced by a look of just… pure heartbreak, “That means I didn’t show up to work Friday for breakfast…,” the puzzle piece seemed to click in his head, “I’m so sorry.”
“Hey, no,” you sat him down on the bed, keeping your hands on his; he seemed to like the contact, and you didn’t want him to feel like he was alone, “Don’t apologize. You’re okay, that’s all that matters. Truly. I just.. I’m worried about you. Of course I am.”
He shook his head, one of his fingers beginning to draw small figures on the back of your hand, “We had plans Friday.”
You leaned forwards, giving him a look of are you serious, before speaking up, “That doesn’t matter. I’m not mad or upset with you, Steven. I want to help you. I don’t want you to go through this alone — or ever again, really.”
He let out a shaky breath, nodding his head, “Yeah, me neither.”
It was silent for a little while, your hand rubbing up and down his arm as he let out a few deep breaths, clearly still trying to gather his thoughts. You didn’t poke, letting him have a bit of silence for a while. And he seemed to appreciate it, slouching backwards and letting himself fall into the bed. He almost dragged you down with him, but you managed to stay up.
“I’m bloody exhausted,” he spoke up after a good minute of silence, slowly sitting back up and running one of his hands through his hair before it rested against yours once again.
You gave a small pout, “I wish I could help in some way.”
He shook his head, eyes meeting yours, “Oh, believe me, just by being here you’re helping. You — yeah, you help me relax.”
Thankfully, he couldn’t see the fact that your heart grew about seven sizes larger at his words. Your chest felt warm, the rush of heat going through your entire body. You hated how his small words made you feel so fuzzy, especially when he looked so defeated and you really shouldn’t be feeling giddy right about now.
“Do you want me to stay for the day?” you asked, trying to keep your voice calm and straight though your heart was running about seven thousand miles an hour.
He nodded, “Yes,” he said it without hesitation and he seemed to notice, slightly embarrassed, “I mean, only if you want. I don’t want to keep you here if you’ve got, like, other plans or something. It’s up to you.”
You grabbed his hand, angling your face so he was looking straight at you, “Hey, I’m here. I’ll stay for the day. We can take it easy, relax, whatever you want.”
This time, he didn’t hide the smile. It caused small lines to appear around his eyes — the warm, dark eyes that you had grown so fond of. The eyes you so desperately hoped you’d never lose.
“Thank you,” he lifted one of your hands, bringing it close to his cheek and resting it against the underside of his jaw. He loved the little touches, this you could tell. Even at work, if ever you brushed your hands or helped him adjust his name tag, he’d linger towards your touch for as long as he could.
It was no secret that Steven was touch starved, which is why you took every chance you possibly could, Thursday and today, to feel his skin against yours. Your wanted nothing more than to feel the way he’d relax under your hands, the way you’d run your fingers along his arms or through his hair to soothe him.
You didn’t think you were at that stage yet, but you truly couldn’t wait to be there.
“Hey, Steven?” you broke the comfortable silence once more.
He opened his eyes — you only just realized that they were slowly fluttering shut — and raised an eyebrow, “Yeah?”
You fought a smile as his fingers lingered on your wrist, the sensitivity of the touch driving you up the bloody wall, “What’s a mummy’s favourite genre of music?”
He stopped his movements, eyes snapping up to meet yours, a smile on his lips. A smile. A true, genuine, eye-warming smile. You hadn’t even gotten to the punch line of the joke yet, but god, you’d be happy to die looking at that smile all day if possible.
Guess you’d have to come up with some clever jokes.
It was a thing you did, the little jokes. He’d always pull them out of nowhere at work to make you laugh, especially on rough days. It was only fair you’d return the favour and try to cheer him up now.
“What?” he asked, eyes looking so deeply into yours it was like you were the only thing he could see in the room. Like everything else faded away and you were the light he was clinging on to.
“Wrap music.”
